FES in Yemen

Our mission

The Yemen office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) is part of the Middle East and North Africa department of the organization. Activities in the country started in 1997, while an office was established in the old city of Sana’a in 1999.

The status of the foundation in Yemen was determined in a basic cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MoPIC) in March 1999. The FES Yemen office works on various topics in the country aiming to strengthen Yemeni actors to effectively contribute to a sustainable peace and democratic transition process as well as to socially just economic development. In partnership with local nongovernmental organizations and civil society activists, academic research centers and think tanks as well as government institutions, the FES seeks to strengthen pluralistic and progressive Yemeni voices.

In its work, FES Yemen organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences and supports research projects about socio-political and economic issues in Yemen. Furthermore, FES Yemen provides support for various media productions.
